Turbo Roundabouts: A Review of Practices in the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, and Poland

Cover of Turbo Roundabouts

This report documents the findings from an international study on turbo roundabouts undertaken as part of the Federal Highway Administration’s Global Benchmarking Program. The study was motivated by a growing domestic interest in the installation of turbo roundabouts to combat the disproportionate number of property damage only crashes at some U.S. multi-lane roundabouts. The purpose of the study was to learn about international experiences with turbo roundabouts to better understand the benefits and challenges of their implementation, determine the availability and applicability of design guidance, and identify opportunities for further turbo roundabout implementation in the U.S. The study, as documented in this report, identified many examples where the visited countries - Czech Republic, Poland, and the Netherlands - implemented turbo roundabouts with positive results that will inform implementation in the U.S.
