The Federal Highway Administration's (FHWA) International Visitors Program facilitates the sharing of information regarding U.S. roads and technologies between FHWA experts and their international counterparts. It supports this sharing of information through specific topic meetings, study tours with FHWA Program Offices, State Departments of Transportation, Transportation Agencies and Associations nationwide. The International Visitors Program has hosted visitors from all regions of the world with a variety of interests related to U.S. roads and technologies.

If you are interested in scheduling meetings with the Federal Highway Administration please take note of the following:

  1. Provide at least five (5) weeks, minimum notice to the Visitor Coordinator.*

  2. Fill out the Visit Request Form which requests information regarding the delegation's contact person (provide a U.S. contact with e-mail and telephone number), the delegation leader, and the delegation's areas of interest. Please be specific about your needs, this will ensure that we develop the most appropriate program. FHWA also requests the Delegation to be prepared to present the status of the subject of interest in their country, to give FHWA a better understanding of their needs and interests.

  3. Provide a letter from the respective country's road administration, other government agency, embassy, or from the U.S. State Department indicating that the delegation's visit is sanctioned by their country's government. Delegations from some countries may need U.S. Embassy approval.

  4. Provide copies of each delegation members' passport and brief professional biography to the Visitor Coordinator.

  5. Advise the Head of the Delegation that the International Visitors Program presents a questionnaire at the end of the meeting/visit.

For more information regarding Federal Highway program areas and offices, please refer to the Federal Highway Administration's web site at www.fhwa.dot.gov/.

*Please note that visitor requests are difficult to accommodate during peak holiday times, including the week of the 4th of July Independence holiday, Thanksgiving week (fourth Thursday in November) and the last two weeks of December. A calendar of U.S. government holidays is available at the OPM web site.
