Diagram of the contractual relationship of the check engineer. The check engineer, in the lower right corner of the diagram, has a contractual relation with the client/authority and contractor, at the top of the diagram. The client/authority has a contractual relation with the contractor. The contractor, in turn, has a contractual relation to subcontractor 1, subcontractor 2, and subcontractor 3. Subcontractor 1 had a contractual relation to designer sub 1, subcontractor 2 has a contractual relation to designer sub 2, and subcontractor 3 has a contractual relation to designer sub 3. The contractor also has a contractual relation to designer B/coordinator, who has a functional link to the designer subcontractors and the check engineer.
