A great amount of work has recently been done in Europe in the area of improving road safety. This effort resulted in a significant decrease of traffic accidents. The best-known work among the countries is the Sunflower and the Sunflower+6 projects identifying national differences in the development of road fatality risks. The SnowFlake study proposed to identify principles, procedures, and good practices of the above mentioned Sunflower projects and provide an opportunity to compare how Rhode Island has approached their safety issues with methods employed by different European countries as well as the impact these different approaches have had on safety development.
