Western Hemisphere ProgramCanadaThe Office of International Programs (OIP) is in discussions with Transport Canada on specific programs for further implementation of the Memorandum of Cooperation that was signed by both countries in 2000. The focus of the discussions has dealt with the possibility of extending the Border Technology Exchange Program (BTEP) model to the U.S.-Canada border. That program, modeled on the Local Technology Assistance Program (LTAP) form has successfully been implemented along the U.S. - Mexican border. In addition, OIP is working with representatives of Transport Canada, other U.S. government agencies, U.S. State and Canadian Provincial governments, and others to support various activities within the Transportation Border Working Group (TBWG). These activities include the establishment of a standard border-wide ITS Border Architecture, coordination with the new "Policy Subcommittee" and the development of a Technology Exchange Program (TEP) along the U.S. - Canada border region. |
